Carl's brother Andy sent everyone in the family a homemade CD for Christmas. We've gotten them before and they are always in rotation because his taste is eclectic and interesting. The CD he sent this year is a special treat for me because it is so very creative. The playlist, as written by Andy:
Could Be Mormon
Definitely Mormon:
1. Come, Come Ye Saints - Mormon Tabernacle Choir (all of them)
2. Deep Purple - Donny and Marie Osmond (this one is for Ali)
Mormon According to the Internet:
3. All of These Things That I've Done - The Killers (Brandon Flowers)
4. Point of Disgusst - Low (Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker)
Became Mormon:
5. Midnight Train to Georgia - Gladys Knight and the Pips (Gladys)
6. Personality Crisis - New York Dolls (Arthur Kane)
7. You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet - Bachman-Turner Overdrive (Randy Bachman)
Grew Up Mormon but Aren't Anymore:
8. Antichrist Television Blues - Arcade Fire (lead singer Win Butler, though his brother Wil Butler is Still Mormon. This is a great band).
9. Anchorage - Michelle Shocked
10. She's So High - Tal Bachman (Randy's son)
Rumored to Have Been Mormon or to Have Participated in Missionary Discussions (this category, being a favorite pastime among Mormons, had huge potential but I edited fiercely):
11. Beautiful - Christina Aguilera
12. Clones - Alice Coper (actually great up in a church that split from the Mormon church but stories of performing in a high school talent show in his father's green-dyed g's persist)
13. In the Ghetto - Elvis Presley
14. Like a Prayer - Madonna (at least it was a rumor in my Michigan mission)
Mormon or Jehovah's Witness, I always get the two mixed up:
15. ABC - The Jackson 5
It's great, isn't it? Don't you want to give it a listen? Good news, then. Tomorrow, Groundhog Day, is my signature holiday and I will be giving away copies of this CD to TEN lucky commenters. Entries accepted until 10 p.m. February 2. I will announce winners throughout the day.

I guess David Archuletta didn't make the cut.
Pick me.
Oh how fun! I bet the 2 of you get along great!!! I bet you 2 "get" each other!!
Happy almost Groundhog Day!
Oooh! I want the CD.
And Happy Groundhog Day tomorrow!
I definitely don't want it. Sounds terrible. He left so many out that you should make a rebuttal cd next year with jewel and Brooke no g's White.
Oh my gosh. That's a brilliant idea for a mix.
I like the idea of a rebuttal cd. How about some Diamond Rio or Lionel Richie?
I so want a CD!!!!!!!
I found this very informative...I didn't know a lot of these people were Mormon...or used to be, etc.
Oh, Brother Cooper...that was a poor choice.
Oooh, me... pick me! I love music AND Goundhog day! We have a Groundhog Day party every year where we invite friends over to watch the movie and have munchies. BTW, I love your blog!
I grew up in Logan with Randy Bachman's kids, Kezia and Tal, so I can vouch for that one.
I *love* Arcade Fire...so glad to know we have Something In Common.
Happy Groundhog Day tomorrow!
I would love some new tunes. Please pick me!
CE Fe, I still have this baby in my belly. Do I get a special prize if I have this baby on Ground Hogs day???? (Which is her actual due date?) Just chekin'. Maybe she just needs a little incentive to come out.
Dude, if Lindsey has her baby on g-day, she totally wins be default.
In the "Grew up Mormon, actually went on a mission and THEN left the church" category: David Gates from the iconic 70's group, BREAD. sigh.
AND: "Bought a car in Utah so he must be interested in being Mormon": Joey Scarborough, of Greatest American Hero fame.
you know how much i love music. i'm down for a free copy.
Really? The Jacksons are JW?
Happy Anniversary and please pick me. (And Lindsey, baby or no, I'm having Braxton-Hicks just thinking about her!)
My husband met Randy Bachman on his mission. Does that give me an inside tack for a CD?
Hilarious and very clever. Paige and I can both call a claim to fame because we knew Arthur Kane. If you have not seen New York Doll you really should. Happy GHD!
Pick me!!! I never win anything and I could use a good new CD...remember the CD I made for you?
May I have the CD if I promised to give you the secret family recipe for latkes?
"Brooke no gs White"--Paige is hilarious.
And so is your brother in law...did you die with happiness when you got this because you knew he'd just written a post for you?
I'd love a CD! I' sure to need sme diversion in the near future!
Sounds like it might make my ears bleed. But I like Arcade Fire!

I'd love a copy. I need something new to listen to, and that sound like just the thing!
Oh me me me! I love rumors!
I NEVER win on-line blog giveaways. I gave up trying. I am going to try one last time for this fantabulous CD.
Happy Groundhogs Day!
I want! I want! Pick me, dammit.
Happy Groundhogs Day....
I love your blog, you are a fabulous writer and I your posts always make me laugh. I'm not trying to bribe you to pick me, promise!!
I'm crossing my fingers for this CD, what a great idea!!
What a perfect gift for you!
I hope you're enjoying GHD.
I would love the CD, I am always game for something new in the mix and my children would benefit from something of at least a relation to spiritual music, (ie not Red Hot Chili Peppers). I did nothing new today, I had a "wash, rinse, repeat day". Tomorrow for sure will be different.
Whew! Thought I missed my chance!
